Christmas Mac and Cheese!

Looking for something festive to feed the kids — young and old alike — in your life?

Look no further! All you need is a box of your favourite macaroni and cheese, some frozen green peas, and red food colouring. Easy, tasty, and sure to be a hit with anyone jonesing for a bit of extra Christmas cheer at the table. Make this for lunch the day of Christmas dinner to avoid spending extra time in the kitchen.

Christmas Mac and Cheese!

1 family sized box of macaroni and cheese
milk and butter, as needed in macaroni recipe
1 1/2 cups frozen green peas
red food colouring (gel works best)
NOTE: if you dislike using food colouring, beets are a great substitute to get a deep purple-red colour

1. Follow the box directions to cook your macaroni. 3 minutes before pasta is done, add the frozen peas and bring the water back to a boil for the remainder of the cooking time.

2. In a small bowl, combine the milk and red food colouring until you are satisfied with the colour of your mixture.

3. Drain the pasta and return to your pot. Add the butter (if necessary), milk, and cheese sauce packet and stir until the sauce is uniform.

4. Serve hot, with the leftover carrot sticks Santa’s reindeer didn’t finish up!
